Ryan Seacrest of “American Idol” has  reported that he’s playing around with it, as retweeted by Twitter’s VP of Business and Corporate Development, Kevin Thau

@RyanSeacrest:

Playing with @twitter‘s new music app (yes it’s real!)…there’s a serious dance party happening at idol right now.

lovin the app…shows what artists are trending, also has up and coming artists… spinning u now @frankturner

The app suggests artists and tracks to users based on a number of personalized signals, including the Twitter accounts a user follows on the microblogging service. Users will be able to listen to clips of music from inside the app, using third-party services like iTunes, Soundcloud; they will also be able to watch music videos provided by Vevo, the music video service owned by Universal Music and Sony.

We Are Hunted informed its users of the acquisition on its site, giving them the opportunity to grab their favorites before their accounts are shut down:

On While we are shutting down wearehunted.com, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team.There’s no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on at Twitter.

This weekend kicks off Coachella, the huge music festival put on in the middle of the California desert every year, hence the timely need for the Twitter music app launch.
